Eating out / Food - Restaurants / Hong Kong

Gold by Harlan Goldstein

We were invited to ‘Gold’ to enjoy lunch with some friends.

2/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Lan Kwai Fong
Phone: 2869 9986

Hidden in the LKF building meant this restaurant wasn’t easy to find as you had to take a lift hidden on the side of the building. However it was well worth the effort.

The decor is modern but comfy and offers a relaxing yet elegant venue in which to enjoy the food. Our lunch included  an “all you can eat” salad and seafood bar, along with entree, main and dessert for around $300 (including the 10% service charge). We added on the free flowing drinks (prosecco/wine/beer) option to our meals to bring the meal to about $400 per person. The waiters were generous in topping up our glasses and towards the end of the session we were offered last top-ups to ensure we could keep drinking a while longer.

The selection for the buffet was excellent. It wasn’t abundant, but there was enough variety to keep everyone happy. The seafood was light and fresh including smoked salmon, peeled cooked prawns and green-lipped mussels. The array of salad choice was perfect and everything came together to create a refreshingly delicious buffet that would have more than satisfied me on its own … but that was just the start!

I opted for a black ink spaghetti topped with fresh seafood for my entree (starter). I can’t fault the freshness of the ingredients and I enjoyed the subtle taste within the dish.

The main was probably the least spectacular part of the meal – ribeye steak with roasted garlic and onion. The steak was ok, the roasted garlic delicious, but it felt like there was just something missing to round out the meal.

Fully satisfied and already over-full from the previous courses out came a peppermint chocolate mousse to finish off. It was beautifully presented and I couldn’t resist it. The taste was smooth and light and refreshing – much more than I ever expected – a perfect end to the meal!

A great venue with friends, both inside and outside on the terrace, offering an enjoyable and relaxing dining experience. Even my kids enjoyed their food – the kids meal is slightly (not much) cheaper and they were very happy with their food.

We will definitely be back!
