Chinese New Deer

Yep … it’s another “what on earth are they displaying in this HK shopping mall now!” posts.

During Chinese New Year we happened to be over at Taikoo Shing. There is a large shopping mall there called CityPlaza. It has an ice rink, supermarket, a couple of department stores, an extensive food court specialising in different Asian cuisine, loads of speciality stores … and some pretty interesting seasonal displays.

I’m not exactly sure how deers come to represent Chinese New Year in the year of the snake, or any other year really given they aren’t part of the Chinese zodiac.

We couldn’t help but wonder if they were Christmas reindeer painted over with tree antlers added. If so I have to give them kudos for recycling and reuse.

What do you think?
